Lecture Content (Examined by 2 closed book, 80 minute mid-terms, each 20% -> 40%)
- Electronics for Environmental Instrumentation. The simplest electronic concepts and circuits, relevant to most of the simplest instruments.
- Measuring temperature. The simplest of "environmental variables," yet we discover the surprising amount of physical theory that lies behind such a common measurement. We will cover some of the (electronic) thermometers, and show how to minimise radiation errors.
- Heat & mass exchange. How a sensor couples to the environment.
- Measuring gases: humidity, CO₂, etc.
- Measuring windspeed
- Measuring radiative energy fluxes
- Statistics and sampling Theory
Laboratory Experiments (5 labs, each 12% -> 60%)
- Basic electronics
- Build and operate a thermocouple
- Heat Transfer Experiment
  - Logger program for Heat Transfer Experiment
- Calibration of Temperature Sensors (due Tues 5 April)
- Calibration of differential pressure sensors. This lab will take place 1400-1600, Fri April 8, in Room 3-10, Undergraduate Mechanical Measurements Lab., Mechanical Engineering
