EAS 270: Basic formulae it is expected that you will remember
In the main, needed formulae are given as data on tests. However it is expected that you will know basic formulae that can be considered high school material. Some examples follow:
- area enclosed by a circle of radius r
- surface area and volume of a sphere of radius R
- kinetic energy of a mass m having speed V
- gravitational potential energy of a mass m at height h in a gravity field g
- that the magnitude of a vector A=(a,b) is given by the Pythagorous theorm for a right angle triangle, specifically |A|=sqrt(a2+b2), and similarly (a 3-dimensional) vector A=(a,b,c) has magnitude sqrt(a2+b2+c2).
It would be nice if you know that π=3.14159, but unless the instructor forgot to do so, this would be given as data. It is difficult to anticipate all such possibilities: science is wide!
