EAS 471 Exclusions and/or Supplements

This file documents any commitments I made to exlude material from examination, as well as sections of the notes that I did not cover but instructed class to read. These are commitments in regard to what is examinable on the final exam.

Supplements
- File on Cumulus parameterization (29 Mar., not examinable)
- Statistical terminology and calculations (typo corrected 1330 MST, 18 Jan.)
- Derivation of generalized conservation equation
- Atmospheric surface layer
- Atmospheric radiation (replaces Ch.12 of course notes; corrected 14 Apr.)
Exclusions
- Material on History of NWP
- Skipped Sec. 3.6 but you should read it (examinable)
- Sec. 5.1 is not examinable
- Skipped Sec. 6.2, but you should read it (examinable)
- Skipped Sec. 6.2.3 (spectral treatment of non-linear advection) and it is not examinable: but this is an otional subject for Assignment 4
- Material on Cumulus parameterization is not examinable (i.e. neither Ch 10, nor the supplementary file)
- Chapter 11 (Lagrangian modelling of dispersion due to unresolved velocity field) is excluded this year
- Sec. 12.8 (Two-stream model for snowpack (spectral) albedo) excluded
- Chapter 13 (Appendix "Review of Clasical Atmospheric Dynamics") is excluded --- most of this material is coverd in Ch 8, which gives sufficient detail
