Wind in forest clearings (Hotchkiss, near Manning, Alberta, 1997)
We were comparing the performance of propellor and sonic anemometers, at the end of a multi-year series of measurements of the wind speed transect across clearings and their protecting forest blocks. The context was that "remnant spruce" left in the clearings after aspen harvest are vulnerable to windthrow, thus the notion of leaving protective windbreak strips, whose effectiveness we were examining.
