Calendar Description: Dimensional analysis and similarity principles. Resolved ("mean") and unresolved ("fluctuating, turbulent") scales of motion, and the closure problem for the dynamical equations. Similarity theories for wind and turbulence over uniform terrain. Dynamics of disturbed windflows (hills, forest clearings, etc). Turbulent transport and dispersion models.
Note: student assignments will involve scientific computing. Students may use whichever software/language they please (eg. Fortran, C, Pascal, Basic; Matlab, Maple).
